Obama: The Mild Leftist

Well, mark E.J. Dionne, Jr. off my list of columnists that I will invest time to read.

In an Op-Ed in the March 30 Investor's Business Daily, he called Obama and Australian Prime Minister, Kevin Rudd, "mildly leftist and critical of the conservatism of the recent past . . . "

I don't know anything about Australian politics but I know Obama and if he is mildly leftist then full-blown Communism is just around the corner. And what is his definition of "the recent past"?

When I read a column, I don't want to find myself laughing out loud at asinine comments like that. I know Mr. Dionne tends to be an apologist for the Democrats but his analysis is usually based of some facts as he sees them.

The Truth About Cap-and-Trade

A warning to all worshippers at the altar of 'Manmade Global Warming', DO NOT READ FURTHER!

Writing in the Financial Times recently, Czech President Vaclav Klaus said: "As someone who lived under communism for most of his life, I feel obliged to say that I see the biggest threat to freedom, democracy, the market economy and prosperity now in ambitious environmentalism, not communism." Klaus told the Cato Institute recently that "environmentalism is a religion" that accepts global warming on faith and seeks to exploit it to reshape the world and economic social order.

The Al-Gore-James-Hansen-manmade-global-warming-hysteria is a hoax. The most concise refutations I have found have been made by John Coleman, the founder of The Weather Channel (see links below).

John Coleman speech to San Diego Chamber of Commerce

Free Republic Article, November 2007

Cap-and-trade is the direct result of global warming hysteria and the failure of the Kyoto Treaty. Thankfully neither the Clinton nor Bush Administration submitted the treaty to the Senate for ratification. With that failure and the increased failure of the global warming hoax to take hold with the majority of Americans, Obama must placate his left-wing lunatic supporters with something. Thus we get cap-and-trade.

The Tax Foundation recently published a working paper called Who Pays for Climate Policy?. This study lays out the financial impact of the cap-and-trade legislation. They calculate the annual burden on American households of $144.8 billion. The average annual household burden would be $1,218, which would be approximately 2% of the average household income. This burden will come in the form of higher energy costs passed on by our utility companies as they cope with their increased costs imposed by this legislation.

On top of that, remember this name, the "Ad Hoc Working Group On Further Commitments For Annex I Parties Under the Kyoto Protocol". This is a United Nations' committee in charge of implementing the Copenhagen Accord, the successor to the Kyoto Treaty. THEY ARE COMING FOR US!!

Updated March 30, 2009: Here is a good piece in the WSJ regarding the unintended consequences of this asinine cap-and-no-trade policy.

Updated April 1, 2009: Michelle Malkin's latest piece describes the lack of debate in Congress as Cap-and-Trade are shoved down our throats.

10 Surprising Facts About American Health Care

http://news.investors.com/032609-472401-how-us-health-care-really-stacks-up.htm?p=2

This article, which outlines the findings from The National Center for Policy Analysis, concludes with this:

"Can the nationalized, universal systems in Britain, Canada or anywhere else improve on this [the U.S. healthcare system]? No, but we can ruin our health care by following the policies of countries where medical treatment is far below the American standard."

What has the federal government ever done well enough that gives you confidence that they can manage your healthcare?

Now for the Top 10 list:

#1 - "Americans have better survival rates than Europeans for common cancers."

#2 - "Americans have lower cancer mortality rates than Canadians."

#3 - "Americans have better access to treatment of chronic diseases than patients in other developed countries."

#4 - "Americans have better access to preventive cancer screenings than Canadians."

#5 - "Lower-income Americans are in better health than comparable Canadians."

#6 - "Americans spend less time waiting for care than patients in Canada and the United Kingdom."

#7 - "People in countries with more government control of health care are highly dissatisfied and believe reform is needed."

#8 - "Americans are more satisfied with the care they receive than Canadians."

#9 - "Americans have much better access to important new technologies like medical imaging than patients in Canada or the U.K."

#10 - "Americans are responsible for the vast majority of all health care innovations."

National Service Reauthorization Act

http://michellemalkin.com/2009/03/25/roll-call-vote-on-6-billion-national-service-boondoggle-14-gop-dissenters/

This speech, given by Senator DeMint of South Carolina regarding the National Service Reauthorization Act, is incredible!

Key points:

“That is the fatal flaw of the Congress today, is we forget that sacred oath of office that says: We will protect and defend the Constitution which says this Federal Government has a very limited function. And those functions that are not prescribed in the Constitution are left to individuals and to the States.”

“What have we done here that suggests we can manage anything like that?”

“Every time the Government steps in to solve a problem, it creates three new problems in its place.”

“This bill is everything wrong with how Congress sees the world.”

“Civil society binds communities, not by its fruits, but by its motives–charity, donations, giving without thought of getting anything in return. This is the selfless sacrifice that happens throughout America today. This is what works.”

“The big difference is private service organizations exist for the people who receive the aid. Government service organizations exist for the people who give it–in this case, for the people who are paid to do it. You cannot pay people to volunteer and expect the organization to remain focused on its mission. Charity is a private, moral impulse, not a government program.”

“Why at a time in economic crisis with unimaginable debt and spending do we come in and say: We need to spend another $10 billion over the next 10 years to create another Government program to do something that is already working.”

“At the same time, we are talking about creating this new bureaucracy to replace private voluntarism with Government programming. We are actually cutting some of the incentives for people to give to charity and for the private sector to work. The President’s budget actually cuts the charitable donations of the people who give the most to charity in this country. So look at what we are doing. We are making it harder for the private sector to work.”

“what we have done over the last several decades is essentially tried to destroy the motivation for people to serve a cause that is greater than themselves.”

“We cannot replace private charity with Government programs.”

The hypocrisy is nothing short of stunning

The Editorial Board at Investor's Business Daily deserves The Conservative Medal of Honor (if the award does not exist, it should). Week after week, they provide dead-on, fact-based political and economic analysis. Without them, I would have stepped in front of a speeding dump truck six months ago given the alternative universe we currently live in called the mainstream media.

They just published an incredible Op Ed that I think is worth your time to read: http://www.ibdeditorials.com/IBDArticles.aspx?id=322782906144146

Here are two excerpts for those of you with short-attention spans:

"[Barney] Frank, one of the chief architects of the housing mess that's brought us so low, isn't satisfied merely with pretending he and his Democratic pals aren't to blame for all this. No, exploiting voter anger over the now-infamous AIG bonuses, he also wants to dictate to American capitalism what it can earn and what it can't.

This is the kind of thing that normally happens in Third World countries ruled by tinhorn dictators, or in fascist states, where the democratic rule of law has collapsed. Not the U.S.

Yet, that's where we find ourselves today, isn't it? Democrats in Congress, who steadfastly rejected virtually all efforts to reform Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac as they went on the wildest, most irresponsible lending binge in the history of finance, now pose themselves as the saviors of fallen capitalism."

"It's a frightening thing to see a once mighty, and free, capitalist economy placed under the heel of an incompetent government. But that's precisely what's happening now.

Executive pay, the focus of much public fury right now, is only the start. Your pay will be next, rest assured. So hold on to your wallets, sure, but also hold on even tighter to something even more precious that now seems at risk: your freedom."

Wake up America!

Punch-drunk on Hope and Change

So what if Obama giggled and chuckled his way through his interview with Steve Kroft tonight on '60 Minutes'? He was only discussing the status of the U.S. economy and the challenges that lie ahead for the country. I personally find it refreshing after eight years of relative prosperity, lower taxes, security, low interest rates and low unemployment.

Hope and Change are here! Ain't it great!

As a recent addition to the 8.1% of Americans sitting in the unemployment line, I look forward to the rest of you who have a job paying my mortgage, my health insurance, my car and my food. Can't wait to sit around and spend more time with my kids and sip iced tea on my back porch as my President giggles his way through his tax-you-into-oblivion-while-Nancy-and-Harry-takeover-50%-of-the-economy-while-Iran-nukes-Israel-and-Russia, China, Venezuela and North Korea-run-amuck policies are implemented.

It was good while it lasted! 233 years was a good run!

I can only Hope that Americans demand a Change in 2010 followed by more Change in 2012.

Hypocrisy Abounds: What if . . . . . . . ?

Answer all of these questions from two perspectives:

#1 - from the perspective of the mainstream media

#2 - from the perspective of Democrat politicians:

WHAT IF Laura or Barbara Bush or Nancy Reagan had said, "for the first time in my life, I am proud of my country"?

WHAT IF a Republican candidate for president denounced an "orgy of spending and enormous deficits," and said, "We have had, over the last eight years, the biggest increases in deficit spending and national debt in our history...Now we have a half-trillion deficit annually..." and then proposed a budget with a deficit three times the size of the one that so disturbed the candidate?

WHAT IF President Bush had only spoken to Fox News and Drudge as Team Obama focuses their media outreach on the likes of the Huffington Post and Ed Schulz (who the hell is he?)

WHAT IF Newt Gingrinch had employed the "reconciliation process" to pass The Contract with America?

WHAT IF George Bush had recommended that soldiers' private insurance should pay for battlefield injuries?

WHAT IF George Bush made a comment about ‘bowling like the Special Olympics’?

WHAT IF a Republican-controlled Congress passed a bill without letting anyone read it?

WHAT IF George Bush nominated five people with "tax problems"?

WHAT IF George Bush had gone on the Tonight Show in the middle of a financial crisis?

WHAT IF George Bush had promised no ear marks in a bill and then signed one with over 8,500 of them in it?

WHAT IF a Republican Senator had been caught lying about his involvement in writing a bill (a la Chris Dodd and the AIG bonuses)?

WHAT IF Newt Gingrich had said “every month 500 million Americans lose their jobs”?

WHAT IF Denny Hastert had said, “family planning [abortion] is a form of stimulus”?

WHAT IF George Bush had spent 14 months bashing the economy and then two months after taking office said “the economy is good”?

WHAT IF Ari Fleischer or Tony Snow conducted themselves with the same smug attitude as current press secretary, Robert Gibbs?

WHAT IF word leaked out shortly after inauguration that George Bush 41 or 43 or Ronald Reagan had received a advance on a book deal?

WHAT IF John Ashcroft had said ‘America is a nation of cowards when it comes to race’?

Please feel free to add your thoughts below.

Call a Spade a Spade

The following question from a family member prompted the response that follows:

Question: How come the party in the majority does all the work, writes all the bills while the party in the minority doesn't do anything constructive except complain about the party in the majority. you should notice that I didn't mention any party name.

Answer: I’m sorry but I refuse to play the “I’m not going to name any party’s name” game. There are only two political parties and it is a cop-out not to name names.

The DEMOCRAT PARTY shut out the REPUBLICAN PARTY in the writing of the non-Stimulus bill. The only thing left for them to do was vote against it and "complain".

The DEMOCRAT PARTY spent 7 years demonizing everything that the REPUBLICAN PRESIDENT did and said (and even how he said it). Much/Most of their rhetoric was malicious and purposefully misleading. From the DEMOCRAT PARTY perspective, everything worked out swimmingly because they were able to disconnect the American public from a likeable President to whom a lot of Americans were able to relate to (George W. Bush). They (and I include you in the “they”) bought the “Bush lied and people died” argument (click here for an eye opener) that led to the election of someone with less experience than your average MBA degree recipient with five years’ work experience. All of this was able to be accomplished for two simple reasons:

#1 – The self-absorbed and apathetic American public would rather watch Jon Stewart and American Idol than follow what their so-called “representatives” are doing to destroy our country and;

#2 – The pathetic mainstream media (which consistently votes DEMOCRATIC) refuses to report on anything that might incriminate a DEMOCRAT member of the legislative, executive or judicial branch of government especially when it involves receiving blow jobs in the Oval Office. For further research on this topic do a Google search on Mark Foley, Trent Lott, Bob Packwood, Clarence Thomas, Robert Bork and Sarah Palin and compare their treatment in the media to Ted Kennedy, Charlie Rangel, Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, TurboTax Tim Geithner, Tom Daschle, Hilda Solis, Nancy Killefer and Ron Kirk.

As a political science major and political junky, I marvel at how well-organized and on-message the DEMOCRAT PARTY is and was throughout the Bush presidency. The strategy is brilliant and is working perfectly.

A few words about the other side of the isle: the REPUBLICAN PARTY is apparently comprised of a bunch of pansies who refuse to stand up and fight. They refuse to call it like they see it for fear of being called a racist, a bigot or any other numerous words that end in “ist”. They did not stand up to the Bush Administration when they expanded the federal government beyond all recognition and, because of their lack of taking a stand in 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006 or 2007, they no longer have any credibility to call Obama the big spending liberal that he; even though that fact cannot be denied.

In the meantime, Obama is going to tax us into oblivion with cap-and-trade, increases in income and dividend taxes (these will come in early 2010 once the economy rights itself) while at the same time he will have to increase Social Security withholdings and extend the age in which you can begin to receive benefits.

On top of that, he wants to socialize our medical system just like the marvelous systems in Canada, Europe and Cuba. I cannot think of a worse idea. You socialize the American medical apparatus with our history of innovation and, I predict, millions of people will die from diseases that could have been cured if the profit potential was kept in place for companies like Pfizer and Gilead Sciences. Sadly, these companies will be reined in under a socialized medicine scenario. We will see services and drug treatments rationed. Can you imagine going to your doctor in five years, after the Obama health care system has been implemented, and having him say to you, “I’m sorry but, while the treatment exists to prolong your life, under Federal regulations, I cannot prescribe or administer it to you because your ‘age + diagnosis quotient’ exceeds the HHS cost benefit ratio. You will just need to go home and die.” That type of SHIT is going on right now in Sweden, the socialist paradise, and in England and in Canada (although the Canadian government does allow their citizens to come to the . . . . . . . . . . . United States for treatment).

A couple final thoughts:

  • Social Security - Who tried to salvage this Ponzi Scheme by privatizing part of it? Who demonized and blocked it? Answer: REPUBLICANS (Bush) proposed and DEMOCRATS opposed.
  • Who tried to rein in Fannie and Freddie Mac and possibly avoid the market collapse? Who demonized and blocked it? Answer: REPUBLICANS (Bush) proposed and DEMOCRATS opposed.
  • Who voted for a multi-billion dollar non-Stimulus package without reading the bill? Answer: DEMOCRATS voted for it while REPUBLICANS opposed it (kind of tough to digest and evaluate 1,072 pages in 15 hours). But who am I to judge? It was good enough for the DEMOCRATS.
  • Who signed a pork-ladened Omnibus spending bill with over 8,000 ear marks after their president said he would never pass a ear marked-filled bill? Answer: The DEMOCRAT president. Remember, “read my lips, no new taxes”? How did that turn out for old George H. Bush? He was crucified and replaced after one term. Not a word of outrage from the mainstream media on the DEMOCRAT president’s lack of honesty.

I could go on and on and on. The bottom line is there is plenty of blame to go around with both Parties that you do not want to name but the fact of the matter is one Party is out to gain power and control at all costs and the other sits around and marvels at how good the other party is at gaining power and control.

One final, self-serving, somewhat related note not meant to impugn you: While the REPUBLICAN PARTY is far from perfect, I don’t have a clue how any free-thinking person could vote for the likes of brainless, pompous assholes like Nancy Pelosi, Barney Frank, Harry Reid, Maxine Waters, Henry Waxman, Chris Dodd, Ted Kennedy, Barbara Boxer, Chuck Schumer, Joe Biden, Gregory Meeks and Mel Watt. They are the face of the DEMOCRAT PARTY today and yesterday, yet they are in complete control of this country and you voted for them. Talk about living in an alternative universe. Talk about living in a country where the public has their head up their ass.

You see how the outrage over the AIG bonuses is making headlines? Well no duh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Chris Dodd wrote the damn amendment that allowed the bonuses!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THAT IS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN BILLS ARE PASSED BY LEGISLATORS THAT DO NOT READ THEM!!!!!!!

Russia to possibly use Cuba and Venezuela air strips

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090314/ap_on_re_eu/eu_russia_bombers_cuba

Here is a critical test for the Obama Administration, he has already indicated that he will not build the missile defense system in Poland in an effort to appease Putin. Now Putin is looking to hook up with Cuba and Venezuela so his long-range bombers can camp out in our backyard.

So now what Mr. President? When a foe or, in this case, a weak ally smells weakness, you are in trouble. Putin smells it, Ahmadinejad smells it as does Kim Jong-Il.

Seriously, is this president trying to see how fast he can destroy this country?

Now the Economy is Good?

http://www.breitbart.com/article.php?id=D96SP30G5&show_article=1

So, let me get this straight; after 8 years of lambasting the Bush Administration for everything from the war to the economy to global warming to tax cuts . . . . . NOW the economy is fine?????

  • NOW that the mammoth no-stimulus-pork-bill-with-no-ear-marks-written-by-Nancy-Pelosi-and-not-read-by-a-single-member-of-Congress-who-voted-for-it has passed
  • NOW that the pork-ladened-but-not-Obama’s-fault-Omnibus-spending-bill-with-no-ear-marks-(even though it had over 8,500 of them) has passed

the economy is okay!

Phew, that was close! I feel so much better knowing that the man in charge and his Party felt compelled to encourage a 50% stock market decline and wealth destruction not seen in 70 years in order to win the presidency.

And now this same man whose resume is weaker than any MBA with 5 year’s work experience, who was trained by the likes of Saul Alinsky, is friends with the likes of Bill Ayers and Jeremiah Wright, is surrounded by people like Rahm Emanuel, who is taking advice from the likes of James Carville and Paul Begala while being insulated by the mainstream media is on the job and working hard to fix all our problems by instituting a socialistic agenda that even Franklin Roosevelt would be envious of.

I’ve been saying it for months that we are living in an alternative universe and every day proves my point. Obama says, “we will not tolerate ear marks in our bills” – then he signs a bill with 8,000 ear marks. He says, “this is the worse economy since The Great Depression” – then four weeks later says, “it’s not as bad as we think”.

Double-talk and double-standard by a neophyte gives me confidence. How about you?

Card Check

If you oppose the abolition of secret ballots for union members or potential union members, go to the link below and sign the petition. This effort, plain and simple, is a recruitment tool for the Democrat Party. The unions overwhelming support Democrat candidates (despite the muted protests from many of their members) and they use the union dues to do it. The more union members = more union member dues = more donations to Democrat candidates. Simple math. Stupid idea.

Taxpayers AGAIN paying for abortions

http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20090309/pl_nm/us_stemcells_usa_9

Now taxpayers’ money will pay for abortions again! Just like under Clinton! It doesn’t matter that over 50% of the population opposes abortion.

Having just completed the Old Testament book of Jeremiah, which basically spends 100 pages of the prophet telling the people of Israel, “God gave you many, many chances and you ignored him time and time again. Now he is going to destroy you and allow the Babylonians to take you over. After 70 years, he will bring you back into prominence and give you another chance”, it seems to me that what is going on right now with the economic situation, wiping out 40%, 50%, 60% of people’s nest egg is a shot over the bow. What else do we value higher than money and possessions? We are losing that which we hold so dearly, money and possessions.

I don’t think it takes a rocket scientist to connect the dots between previous shots across the bow in recent history. You can take it back as far as you want: The Civil War, WWI, The Great Depression, WWII, Vietnam, the recession in the 1970’s, marine barracks in Beirut, World Trade Center 1993, 9/11, Bush demonized for 8 years and now Obama who, if we watch his actions (NOT HIS WORDS), we can only conclude that he wants to drive this country off a cliff.

My point is just like the old bump sticker, “What would Jesus do?” Except I wonder what God thinks as he looks down on this country that he blessed more uniquely than any other country in history. What does he think? What is his plan for us?

Israel and Iran

http://www.jpost.com/servlet/Satellite?cid=1236103158937&pagename=JPost%2FJPArticle%2FShowFull

http://www.jpost.com/servlet/Satellite?cid=1236103158937&pagename=JPost%2FJPArticle%2FShowFull

Well you know damn well that Obama isn’t going to help Israel. The Left made sure Bush wouldn’t/couldn’t intervene (you remember “the quagmire”, the lost war in Iraq, Bush lied people died, “where’s Osama?", etc, etc). Now the world is stuck with Israel having to defend itself against a country whose population is peaceful but whose leaders consistently decree the end of Israel and wiping them off the map. Obama wants to “talk” to the Iranians while they build their nuclear bomb capability and refuse any international inspections of their facilities.

I truly believe that this world has gone mad. It’s upside down. Good is bad. Bad is good. Words speak louder than actions. It has gone far beyond funny or comical or even worthy of a friendly debate between friends.

APATHY + EVIL = DISASTER!

Will America wake up before something really bad happens? My hope is YES. My gut says HELL NO!
